1st Day at the Office:
It was a different day for me, my holidays came to an end. I used to wake up around 11:00 AM in the holidays. But then the day came when i have to leave to office. I got up around 7:30 AM and started getting ready. Meanwhile the breakfast was ready and i was not ready to take lunch from home. So ate so fast and started, but i knew i will be late as it is already 8:15 AM. I was suppose to be in the office at 9:00 AM. I had to take a bus from my place to office which is around 14.5 Km and the busiest routes in Hyderabad. It took around 1 hour and then finally i entered office at 9:15 AM.
I was surprised to see around. The office is composed of 6 rooms including a small kitchen and MD's room. Unlike other office environment there were no separate cabins for each employee. Instead each one can choose their own desk, chair and a bean bag. Looking at these things i felt this is the exact working environment i was looking for. Then i went inside and sat on a chair in front of a desk that is near to the window. Then came the CEO who is of our age and asked if i was okay with the arrangements and was i feeling comfortable. Then i nodded my head and told him this is what i wanted. He smiled and left.
There are about 8 employees along with me in the same room. We introduced ourselves and then sat simply for sometime. Then came the happy part where we got our own laptops (Dell Vostro). I was happy looking at my new laptop and wondering whats the next thing that we have to do. Then came the same CEO and told us to install what all softwares are needed. I finished everything and helped others with the process. By the lunch time everyone is done with the installation and setting up the applications in their laptops. Most of them bought Lunch and i was thinking what should i do as i was new to the office and the place around office.
The management offered me the lunch that is made for them in the office itself. I had my lunch and started staring at the IMAC placed on the desk in the corner of the room. I Liked it and wanted to work on it. At around 2 PM everyone is done with their lunch and sat back in their places. Then the CEO came into the room and started asking some general questions and noticed how well everyone is responding.
Around 2:30 PM he started explaining about the product that we are going to work on and assigned titles and modules for all the employees. The product is unique, very useful and will definitely be a great success in the market. I was very much impressed with the product and started to think about it. After finishing the presentation and all they served tea/coffee for everyone. I had coffee and sat in font of my laptop. Then came CEO near me and asked about the product and explained him what all i felt.
Before i start working on my module told me to set up an internal server on the Desktop that is on the desk next to me. Then i setup the internal server using Apache and hosted some random files in it so that everyone will can see. By the time i did all these things it was around 5:30 PM. As i was new to everything it took a longer time that the usual. Everyone was pretty impressed by my work. Then its time to leave. Everyone was ready to leave and then the CEO came and told about the working hours and the office timings. He also mentioned that there wont be any work pressure as the deadlines should be set by us and finish the work accordingly. The office will be opened 24*7 and anyone cane come and work anytime they want. But if you are following the timings it is from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Weekly the login hours should be 48 including the lunch time and tea time.
I was so happy after listening to the working timings and all. These are the advantages you get when you work in a startup. You needn't worry about timings and deadlines, you will be known to everyone and your work will be recognized. You will have a very good chances to go to higher position very soon.
